The 13th China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) was held online from Oct.3-6,2002. After four days and six rounds of fierce competition, the team from ECNU won the Grand Prize with the second place overall score in the final, which is a further step up from last year, and the undergraduate student Wang Mingxiao won the Best Positive Party Award.

The 13th CUPT was organized by the China University Student Academic Physics Competition Committee and hosted by the School of Physical Science and Technology of Xinjiang University and the Xinjiang Physics Association, and there were 124 universities participated in this competition. After competing in six regional competitions, 65 teams from 64 of them (including two teams from the organizer and three teams from specially invited universities) participated in this year's national competition.

The team from East China Normal University, consisting of seven undergraduates from School of Physics and Electronic Science , participated in the competition. The competition was divided into two parts: the five rounds of confrontation and demonstration match. In the five rounds of confrontation, ECNU team played against teams from Peking University, China University of Science and Technology and Tongji University, etc. In the end, the team members played steadily, scoring the highest points in each game of their field, and successfully advanced to the national finals with the second highest total score in the preliminary round.

The national finals were held between Harbin Institute of Technology, East China Normal University and Xi'an Jiaotong University, and the matches were broadcast live on the Beeping website, with nearly 3,000 people watching the matches. After a fierce competition, our team members played well and won the recognition and praise of the expert judges with their rigorous scientific attitude, solid and comprehensive theoretical skills, innovative and standardized experimental design, beautiful and shocking phenomena, smart and elegant argumentation and analysis, unassuming and efficient teamwork, and finally won the Grand Prize with the second place in the final.

The China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) is a national competition in China based on The International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT), where students compete in academic debates on theoretical analysis, experimental research and other aspects of 17 open physics problems. The School of Physics and Electronic Sciences organizes annual training and competition for students to develop their analytical and problem-solving skills, improve their research literacy and presentation skills, foster a sense of innovation and team spirit, and promote the all-round development of their knowledge, abilities and qualities.
